Educators Explore careers for their students through annual business bootcamp
Huron County, OH – The Huron County Teacher Business Bootcamp, an innovative program designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and local industry careers, has successfully completed its fifth annual session. Organized by North Point Educational Service Center and Huron County Growth Partnership, this year’s program welcomed educators from six different schools across Huron County.
The primary objective of the Teacher Business Bootcamp is to empower educators with firsthand knowledge of local industries and career opportunities, enabling them to better guide and inspire students toward growing and stable career paths within the region. This year’s participants visited Durable Corporation, Civista Bank, Firelands Federal Credit Union, JBT Marel, R&D Equipment, Mercy Health – Willard Hospital, and Dutch Maid Logistics.
Throughout the experience, teachers gained a greater appreciation for the businesses that help drive Huron County’s economy, with many noting they had passed these facilities for years without realizing the products being made or the many careers available in one singular industry. One highlight of the week was a visit to R&D Equipment, where Chuck Plumb, the President of the company, challenged participants to think beyond individual industries and consider the broader economic and workforce factors that influence business decisions.
One participant, Tammy M. Legg from Monroeville City Schools, shared “Teacher Boot Camp allowed me the opportunity to converse with employers and employees in our area. These conservations gave me insight into what traits employers were looking for in new hires but also what skills the employees wished they were exposed to in high school. As a fourth-grade teacher, I hope to incorporate these traits in skills into my classroom lessons.”
The knowledge gained through the bootcamp will help participating educators make stronger connections between classroom learning and real-world careers, benefiting students throughout Huron County during the upcoming school year.
