From the moment guests stepped into the venue – brought to life by local partners including The Village Barn, Sheri’s Coffee House, Violet Pineapple Balloons, Bold Blooms, and Miller’s Market – the atmosphere radiated possibility. The Summit embodied HCGP’s mission to empower businesses to thrive, communities to grow, and opportunities for prosperity to take root. As Executive Director Sarah Ross shared in her opening remarks, “When you grow, our community grows. That’s what Rooted & Rising is all about.”

The day opened with a powerful keynote from Debbie Peterson, leadership readiness expert and author of Clarity. Her signature program, The Readiness Reset™, guided attendees through her Clarity Compass – a reflective journey designed to help leaders cut through noise, reconnect with purpose, and chart a direction rooted in intention rather than busyness.

Peterson’s message – “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” – proved prophetic. Many in the audience found themselves deeply moved as they explored their personal missions. Women shared openly, supported one another, and in several moments, tears flowed as breakthroughs emerged. Peterson’s interactive approach set the tone for a day of honesty, courage, and growth.

The Summit featured a panel titled Rooted & Rising Reflections from Executives moderated by Abbey Bemis, COO of Payne, Nickles & Co. The panel brought together four powerhouse leaders: Trina Bediako, CEO of New Horizons Baking Company, Molly Bond, General Manager of Durable Corporation, Tanya Morrow, President of Ploger Transportation, and Allison Will, President of TUFTEX Balloons. Trina reminded attendees that “when you are in a room, you are there because you bring value. Allison Will encouraged women to be proud of who they are, exactly where they are. Molly reframed growth as a mindset shift—inviting leaders to track fulfillment, not just happiness. Tanya shared how she uses doubters as fuel, letting her expertise shine through results. The panel’s authenticity and candor sparked reflection, laughter, and a sense of shared strength among attendees.

The afternoon’s Fireside Chat featured Susan Root Moore, Director of Leadership Huron County, Dr. Allia Carter, Dean of BGSU Firelands, Sarah E. Velazquez, Vice President of KeyBank, Key4Women, and Michelle Carpenter, Co‑Chair of Key4Women. Together, they explored the power of networks, mentorship, and rediscovery. Their message was clear: leadership is not a solo journey. It is shaped by the people who walk with us, challenge us, and open doors. They highlighted the importance of programs like Leadership Huron County and Key4Women in building intentional, supportive ecosystems for women at every career stage.

Throughout the day, attendees shared their excitement and gratitude with comments including, “It left me feeling optimistic and driven.”, “We are starved in Huron County for more events like this! Kudos to HCGP.”, “This event exceeded my expectations… WOW!”, and “There were so many practical things that will improve my professional and personal life.”. The message was unmistakable: Huron County is eager for more opportunities like this.

The Summit was made possible through the generous support of Don Graham & Associates, Payne Nickles & Co., KeyBank & Key4Women, First National Bank, and a vibrant exhibitor hall featuring local businesses and organizations.

At its heart, the event reflected the vision and commitment of Huron County Growth Partnership. HCGP continues to champion economic vitality, leadership development, and community prosperity – ensuring that local talent doesn’t need to leave to lead.

As Ross closed the event, she reminded attendees: “You don’t need to leave to lead. You don’t need to reinvent to grow. This community is rooted—and it is rising. And so are you.” Attendees were encouraged to join HCGP to continue the momentum. HCGP invites women, businesses, and community partners to join the organization and help shape the next chapter of growth in Huron County.
